The many requests for her leadership skills and guidance prompted her to start her own company, ROQ Marketing Group in 2009.  She served as Executive Producer of the McDonald’s 365Black Awards that took place at the Essence Music Festival.  Raquel was the integral player in winning the business and secured the initial media partner to air the event.  She also led all strategy efforts on behalf of the TV One account – including media planning, digital strategy, creative development and event execution.

In 2009, Raquel earned her MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management while working full-time and having her second baby. She graduated on time from the prestigious graduate school.  She holds a B.A. in history with an economics minor from Wesleyan University.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she moved to Chicago and joined Johnson Publishing Company where she served as vice president, national marketing director for seven years.  In this role, she also facilitated multiple strategic partnerships that made a tremendous impact on advertising revenue.  One of her most significant achievements was spearheading and negotiating EBONY’s first media partnership with the TV One cable network to expand the publication’s reach.  She also created signature events such as the Taste of EBONY and the annual EBONY Oscar Party.  Known for creating strategic alliances - she also forged partnerships for the publication with Anheuser-Busch, Procter & Gamble, Chrysler and Clorox during her tenure.

Raquel’s friends call her the ‘Mom-Solver,’ because she understands the everyday balance of work and family.  Raquel realizes that as a family grows and changes, there is a need for new and innovative products. “Moms are everyday magicians. We develop, solve and invent solutions daily to meet the needs of our families. I enjoy providing solutions to making anyone’s life a bit easier. We all need that.”
